Hello,
Once again I’m reaching out to the community because I can't take it anymore. Here it is: I recently got a Mac, and I have an external hard drive with many Word documents that I need to modify. Well, I know I can't edit them because it says "read-only."
So, I bought 2 licenses (instead of one) for Microsoft NTFS for Mac by Paragon Software. PSG-31091-PEU-PL..... However, I'm unable to install it, let's just say it doesn't work at all. I have contacted customer support twice. They respond, tell me to do this or that, but nothing works... and yet, I need to work on my old documents.
Could someone please explain it to me clearly, guide me even from A to Z if possible, because I’m desperate.
Thank you to the community.
AC.

    Hello,

If the issue occurs on a Mac running Big Sur, (especially on a Mac equipped with the new M1 processor), this installation is still possible, but you need to allow the installation of extensions to the system, and for that, you must disable a level of security in macOS.

This is the System Integrity Protection, the infamous SIP.

This is done by using a command in the Terminal, (csrutil disable), after booting from the recovery partition. Press and hold the cmd and R keys during boot.

    https://developer.apple.com/documentation/security/disabling_and_enabling_system_integrity_protection

But if the Mac has an M1 processor, it’s a bit different. You need to turn off the Mac and restart it while holding down the power button, to be able to enter the Options choice that appears on the screen, and then change the security level so that the system accepts the installation of third-party extensions.

I did this on my MacBook Air M1, but I reverted back to keep security at maximum, since ultimately, I only use Paragon NTFS on my old iMac.

So, the whole point is to know what model of Mac it is, and what version of macOS is installed.

    Hello,

You say you've had a Mac for a while, does that mean that previously you were using a Windows computer and that your external hard drive is formatted in NTFS?
If so, I recommend reading this document:
    https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-37636360-disques-durs-externes-ou-cles-usb-sous-mac-os
You should find the answers to your questions there.
Personally, I can't tell you more.
    Best regards

    Hello,
Thank you for the explanations. But I don't think I'm going to make it. My Mac is an old second-hand MAC OS HIGH SIERRA 10.13.6... Is it because it's old that I'm struggling?
I've contacted PARAGON support several times. The explanations, in approximate French, are not very clear.
I really don't know what to do...
So, if you have any ideas...
    Thank you very much!

      Good evening,

Just in case, see this help:
      https://www.macplanete.com/tutoriels/27073/ntfs-macos-high-sierra-10-13

PS: Upon reading, it probably isn't what you're looking for, wait for Francis to come by, he'll explain it to you.

      Good evening,

At this point, try this, at least it doesn't cost anything:
      https://mounty.app/

The main issue (also for Paragon) is to properly mount the partition, it seems to me that if the bug occurs, it is documented (in English, it wouldn't be funny).

    Good evening,

On a Mac running High Sierra, there's nothing simpler. I have it myself on my iMac running High Sierra, this version of Paragon NTFS version 15.8.105... I don't see where the difficulty lies under High Sierra... you'd need to explain in detail the moments when "it gets stuck"

Do you have the correct version? :
