Hello,
I'm currently doing an internship and living in a Crous apartment with Ethernet cable as the only way to connect. (given that I can't get 4G signal in the apartment, which is great)
Until now, I plugged in the cable, the connection was detected, and a window would open for me to enter my username + password, and I had a great internet connection!
Then, after a nice weekend at my boyfriend's, I came back and disaster struck: I plugged in my cable and nothing happened, the window didn't open, and my computer tells me the network is unknown...
So I restart my computer, nothing. I unplug for 15 minutes, nothing. I borrowed my neighbor's cable to check if it wasn't mine, nothing. I swapped my adapter with my neighbor's to verify that it wasn't that either, nothing. That night, I was at my wit's end, thinking maybe tomorrow a miracle would happen... and indeed, the next evening everything worked perfectly again... except that the evening after that, I had the same issue again... so I went to see my neighbor... what a joke, she has the same problem as me...
And the Windows diagnosis tells me "<<Ethernet>> does not have a valid IP configuration," could that be related?
(I know very well that a question like mine already exists, but there isn't a solution, so I'm taking my chances, maybe you can help me?)
Configuration: Windows / Chrome 91.0.4472.77

Hello.
In the establishment, there must surely be a network administrator, or at least a person managing the Crous network who should normally ensure that every user (like you) has internet access.
Either they are undergoing maintenance (which can last more or less time), or the router is acting up a bit, it is to them that you should address your concerns, because based on your description, it is unlikely to be the cable or your computer.

Thank you for your response, I called the Crous. Apparently, they have called in some IT specialists for the problem since there are actually 3 residences that no longer have connections... They came this morning and are coming back this evening.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed to get my connection back as soon as possible!
