Hello,

Since yesterday, my secondary screen has a max resolution of 1024x768 and I can no longer select 1920x1080. I've had two 24" screens for years and I've never had any issues, but yesterday I unplugged the HDMI from my monitor and tested a Xiaomi Mi TV Stick on my second screen. Once the test was finished, I reconnected the HDMI cable and the screen wasn’t recognized right away; I switched the source several times, turned it off and on again, and eventually, it came back. The problem is that it was set to 1024x768. I went into the Nvidia settings, changed it back to the correct resolution, and everything was working fine. I stepped away, and when I returned, I came out of sleep mode and again my secondary screen wasn’t recognized; I repeated the process to get it detected, and it worked, and this time the resolution hadn’t changed.
I then thought maybe I needed to restart my PC because I plugged in the screen while it was already on, maybe it doesn’t recognize it properly. I restarted my PC, and now the screen is recognized but under a default name "Digital Monitor" instead of its Asus-... name, and the resolution is no longer changeable; I’m stuck at 1024x768 max. It also says I'm connected via DVI, which is false, as my graphics card doesn’t even have a DVI port.
My graphics drivers were up to date, but I still uninstalled my graphics driver and performed a clean installation with no success.
I can't connect my screen any other way than HDMI because my graphics card has 3 display ports and 1 HDMI, and my monitor does not support display port.

The question I’m asking myself is whether this old Chinese stick burnt something in my screen because it’s probably related, and if you have a solution because I can't imagine using a screen with 1024x768 resolution for long; it’s really ugly.

Best regards,

Lionel

I found a solution. I used the software Custom Resolution Utility (CRU) which allowed me to rewrite the EDID table of my screen. I then copied the resolutions from my working screen to the one that was not functioning properly and I retrieved my resolution of 1920x1080. The solution is probably not ideal but it works, and after rebooting, the screen is recognized normally.

I forgot to mention that I also tried another HDMI cable, same problem.
