Hello,
Configuration: Linux / Chrome 88.0.4324.192
I can't install my printer
I tried IPP everywhere and the TS8300 series, but neither works
With IPP everywhere in system-config-printer, it's marked as inactive
I downloaded the rpm provided by canon, but when I try to install it with alien:
sudo alien cnijfilter2-5.90-1-rpm
Unknown type of package, cnijfilter2-5.90-1-rpm.
Is it even possible to use this printer on ubuntu?
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
Go to your browser and type the URL "localhost:631", it will show you a page to install a printer... you click on Add printer, etc...
It's CUPS https://www.cups.org/ if you don't have it, install it. -
Hello,
Are you sure about the model of your printer?
I can't find a PIXMA TS8300 on the Canon website...
There's the TS8340, TS8350, 8351, 8352 but no 8300.
It doesn't matter because apparently all TS models have the same drivers.
I think it would be easier to follow the instructions on this page and add a ppa
https://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/tutoriel/installer_imprimante_canon -
It's the TS8300 series, specifically a TS8350
with the PPA it ends like this:
E: Unable to locate package cnijfilter-ts8300series
same with 8350, with TS, etc...
I found out why the RPM installation didn't work, I was able to install the -deb (the install.sh crashes due to a multitude of dependencies)
the -deb installation doesn't seem to be enough, adding the printer doesn't work, system-config-printer still doesn't find the driver
Regarding CUPS, I did indeed forget to mention it but once the printer is added (TS8300 series everywhere) it is also seen as inactive...
Staying on CUPS, a test print shows:
printing in progress since
Sat. March 06, 2021 12:57:55
"Unable to obtain printer status."
basically, the USB connection isn't working?? -
Well, while rummaging through the printer settings, I saw that it could use the Wi-Fi from my box and now it’s all good, it’s detected immediately and the right driver is used
PHEW!
But still, the USB isn’t working, which is very strange
I prefer to focus on the success anyway :-)
Thank you all! -

If I understand correctly, it's more of a USB issue than a printer one..??
Well, good if it works that way...
So the issue is resolved..
A+++
