Hello,
As mentioned before, nothing in the manual suggests that a specific name can be given to a handset (other than the one automatically assigned during registration).
This feature existed on much older Gigaset models.
Try going to the "Internal Call" conversation
once a handset is selected (for example INT2) before pressing ok (which would make the INT2 ring) to see if, by any chance, pressing "Menu" (if that is indeed offered at that moment) reveals a possible conversation where the name of the handset could be changed.

and I don't see why it would be impossible to move a cordless handset from one charging dock to another
But we can't change the name that appears on the handset: It's INT1, INT2, etc. That's what Chamblous wanted to do if I understood correctly.
