Error message when opening a .jpg file in PowerPoint

Good evening everyone

I have a problem with opening jpg files with PowerPoint and I would appreciate some help:

When I try to open a jpg file with PowerPoint, I get an error message that says ("cannot open because no converter has been installed")

I am quite surprised because if I try to open the same file with LibreOffice "Print", there is no problem and the file opens...

I am on a desktop PC with Windows 10 and I have installed Office Professional Plus 2007

For your information, two other types of issues that seem to fall under the same problem:

1- It's the same when I try to open the same file with Publisher while it opens with LibreOffice Draw
2- A file created with Draw does not open with Publisher, while a Publisher file opens without issue with Draw

    Good evening,
    In the screenshot, it's not a jpeg but a tif that is causing the error.
    PowerPoint does recognize these file formats, but your LibreOffice must be more compatible than your Office 2007 with these image formats.

    Have you tried converting your files or saving your files as jpeg (or another format) to see?

    You cannot OPEN a tif, jpg, png file, etc. (image format) with PowerPoint.
    PowerPoint deals with PowerPoint files... that is to say ppt, pptx, etc.

    In the same way that LibreOffice Impress cannot open images, it is LibreOffice Draw that opens images.

    However, you can insert images into a PowerPoint presentation.

    I'm sorry, I did not send the correct screenshot (there is indeed also the issue with .tif files)

    Actually, I'm surprised that we can't open jpg files with PowerPoint, because, even though I am far from being knowledgeable, I had a tendency to think that what opens with LibreOffice also opens with Office...

    As an example, with LibreOffice, you can open images using both "Draw" and "Print", so I'm surprised that PowerPoint, which is supposedly equivalent to LibreOffice Print, cannot open an image... (Indeed, you can insert an image into PowerPoint, but you can also open one)

      M@rina is right to be precise about the vocabulary: insertion in or opening with
      If we launch LibreOffice, it will choose the most appropriate tool in the suite to handle the file. So we will open a jpeg or other image with Draw. However, if you are in Impress, you will need to import the image to insert it into a slide because even if you click "open", it is Draw that will launch.

      So if we talk about opening and not inserting, the error message you received is completely normal.

    ok thanks I just understood the subtlety
    I hadn't noticed that by doing "open" from LibreOffice, printing on a .jpg, printing was immediately replaced by "draw"...

    however, please two clarifications:
    - is it normal that, in Office, we do not find the same approach, that is to say, an attempt to open an image with PowerPoint and thus actually open it with Publisher...
    - is it normal that Publisher (at least on my PC) does not open .jpg files (they are excluded from the list that is proposed)

      It is "normal" because the developers have made different choices.
      For OpenOffice and therefore LibreOffice, the choice is to unify the tools of the suite more strongly.

      For clarification, Publisher and Draw are not quite equivalent.
      Draw has a purpose of creating drawings even though you can do some desktop publishing (or rather light desktop publishing, meaning a small level of desktop publishing) while Publisher is made for desktop publishing even though you can use it to handle (a little) images.

      In Draw, you open or insert an image; in Publisher, you only insert.
