No sound with optical cable

I plugged in the 3.5mm RCA jack.
The sound is coming out well from the home theater speakers.
The problem now is that if I turn off the home theater, there is no sound from the TV, and when I raise the volume with the TV remote, it indicates that I am using headphones. I’ve looked through the TV's audio menus, but I haven’t found anything to switch back to TV sound, other than unplugging the jack from the back, which is not practical since it’s a large TV mounted on the wall.
