Hello
Gimp had become a dear friend, but then, like old couples, it trapped me
I fixed a few problems (single window issue), but there’s one left to discuss: I somehow managed to have at least 2 cards (meaning image-layers) at the same time on my workspace; unfortunately, as soon as I want to move one even slightly, the other card vanishes,
I wanted to specify that I was in the process of CUTTING out image-texts (A4), in order to MOVE the cut pieces onto a NEW BLANK IMAGE (A4). However, it turns out that the cut piece, shown as such on Gimp, miraculously recomposes at the moment it is dropped, as if there had been no cut at all (which is false, if I trust the requested layer window)
I searched the available Gimp settings for a possible solution… and I found nothing. More details;
So I would like to copy-paste several pieces of phrases onto the blank image
which would look like this:
Thank you very much
Have a good evening!

Hello Kollethon
You open your sheet music document
You create a new A4 document which you save right away by giving it a name.
When you cut, you need to copy/paste your cut onto a new layer, let me explain:
You make your selection
You copy with Ctrl C
You paste with Ctrl V and there you will see that you have a floating selection at the top of the layers list
Create a new layer with this floating selection by clicking on the icon with the (+) sign at the bottom of the layers list
You remain positioned on this new layer you just created and you do: Edit "copy"
You will position yourself on your A4 document you created at the beginning and you do Edit "paste"
Important note:
To cut text in your source document, you must always position yourself on the first layer of your document (background, first at the bottom of the list) otherwise it will not work for your cuts.

Thank you Axel
It's as clear as crystal
It worked!
I have a small problem left to solve:
When I do ctrl+c>ctrl+v, the infamous "floating selection" (the selected music line) goes back to its original state, i.e. (drowned on a page of consecutive lines = the initial text before selection)
If I want to avoid this "drowning", I have to fill in a box (in the layers window/layer attributes) where it says: layer with dimensions of the (image)
...Why do they ask me to resize.
if I were to copy-paste at this stage, it wouldn't work.
...To avoid having that, I need to fill in the box: layer with dimensions
...and then it works!!!
..Here's the work
I know that I CAN do it this way, but it complicates things a bit
Maybe there is another box to check to avoid having to do this every time
Thank you anyway
Have a good evening

I will try to answer your question as best as I can even though I'm not sure I fully understood it
It’s normal for your cutouts to be on the same document from the start, but to recognize each cutout you need to give them a name, and to do that you double-click on its layer and give it a name
Here’s what I suggest:
Make your selection to cut
Ctrl C (copy)
Ctrl V (paste) (floating selection)
Double-click on the layer and give it a name
Edit copy
Go to your new A4 document and paste Edit, Paste as, new layer
Go back to the original document and close the eye of the layer you created and continue your cutouts (this way you’ll keep better track)
Personally, I wait until the very end before adjusting the layers to the dimensions of the image and I don’t understand why you’re being asked to resize.
Maybe Luke1 or Viagers, if they pass by here, will understand your question better and can help more :-(
