Hello,
I’m trying to help a friend. From what she told me, her computer crashed while trying to install a Windows 10 update. But since it has a small hard drive, she didn't have enough space.
The PC won’t start anymore, but I can access the control panel and the BIOS.
I tried to perform a system restore. The restoration starts but stops at about 40% and tells me that the restoration cannot be completed.
I also created a USB drive using the Windows site via MediaCreation Tools. I thought I might have a chance to start a reinstallation from the bootable USB. But when I go into the BIOS and change the boot order to start from the USB, I get a black screen, and nothing happens.
At this point, I have no more ideas on how to force the reinstallation of Windows 10. Now I'm trying to create a recovery drive on another Windows 10 PC.
Then I'm wondering if the hard drive might be failing?
If anyone has any suggestions to help resolve this issue, that would be great.
Thank you
Configuration: Macintosh / Safari 14.0.1

Hello,
Test the hard drive with "CrystalDiskInfo"

Thank you for your responses.
For CrystalDisk, I think it's impossible. I can't install anything on the PC, nor can I run anything from a USB stick, for example.
I wanted to create a bootable DVD but I can't, the DVD is too small. That's why I made a USB stick with Media Creation. The problem is that if I want to boot from this stick, it doesn't work; I get a black screen and nothing happens. -
Hello, access the troubleshooting options and try safe mode.
Launch safe mode when the PC powers on
When the computer is starting up (which is called boot in English, pronounced "boot"), the screen remains black or blank, Windows 10 does not boot and doesn't even show the login screen? You need to proceed differently.
Press and hold the Power button on the computer for about 10 seconds to turn it off. You will need to repeat the same action several times.
Press the Power button to turn the PC back on.
As soon as the PC begins to start up, after displaying the manufacturer's logo and/or emitting a beep, hold down the Power button for about ten seconds to turn the machine off again. Often, it is unnecessary to hold this button down for so long, but that is what Microsoft recommends.
Press the same Power button again to turn the computer back on.
As before, when Windows restarts, hold the Power button down for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
Press the Power button again to turn the computer back on.
This third time, let the PC restart completely. Upon startup, the operating system should display the Windows Recovery Environment recognizable by its blue screens, which we have seen earlier. From the Choose an option screen, follow the same steps to start in safe mode (Troubleshoot, Advanced options, Settings…). -
yes but then I tell myself that I may not have chosen the right format when I made the key. I set it to 64 bits, I'm currently busy remaking it in 32 bits. I don't know if it will work.
My initial idea was to do a system restore but as I said it gets stuck. Then I thought well I just have to make a bootable USB drive and reinstall Windows.-
In the little tutorial I gave you, there are not only safe mode options but all the troubleshooting options for Windows.
- Good evening
I was able to access the console by pressing F8 where I indeed had several options to try to solve the problem. I tried everything through that, but as I said, even resetting the PC didn't work; it got stuck at 30-40%
Now for the epilogue... I created a new Windows USB key, this time in 32-bit. It worked perfectly, I was able to restart the PC, albeit with difficulty. I don't know why, but the PC didn’t accept my friend’s email address and password. I used my own, and it worked.
The problem is that I have no sound. It says that no audio output device is installed... I tried installing Realtek, but that didn’t work. I hope an update will fix the issue.
