Lower speed with xiaomi pro wifi repeater

Hello,

Wanting to improve the speed in my living room, I purchased a Wi-Fi repeater. However, when I connect to it, the speed is even slower. How is that possible?

    In any case, the cable remains the best solution (surely not the easiest or most aesthetic).
    Wi-Fi has made a lot of progress but comes with the constraints mentioned earlier.
    PLCs (through the electrical network) also, some models also have Wi-Fi+, as advertised by Magic :-), are a more discreet alternative than a cable running through the house, but again, it depends on the quality of your electrical network.

    Yes, a Wifi repeater is not an amplifier; it can only repeat the signal it receives, sometimes even worse...
    You may (perhaps) improve (a bit) the quality of the Wifi by moving the repeater closer to the Wifi source (Box, Router) to lose less bandwidth... But it's not guaranteed.

    Moreover, Wifi is not an "exact" technology and is very sensitive to the environment, which can disrupt the signal (walls, electronic devices, microwave, blender, etc...).

    Miracle repeaters do not exist, despite what the ads may say.

      Hi! Actually, it was previously in the middle of my apartment but I had to move it due to the fiber installation, which means it's now far from my living room, so I'm left with a WiFi speed that's the same or even worse than with ADSL... What a joke. I don't have an RJ45 socket but I'm already using powerline adapters to connect the TV, consoles, etc... However, WiFi is still convenient, especially for connecting to my phone. Thank you anyway for your interest.

      Why wasn't the fiber installed in the living room if you don't have a communication box?
      It would be a good idea to install an Ethernet cable to set up a Wi-Fi access point closer to your living room; your repeater might also work as an access point.
      If it's this thing, it doesn't, and on top of that, it only does Wi-Fi N, which is a drawback for fiber.
      Rather invest in a real 802.11ac access point installed as close to your living room as possible and connected via Ethernet to your box.
      There's good equipment like this one.
      Similarly,
      powerline modems are a real drag on a fiber connection, but they might be sufficient for TV.

      I don't know, the technician drilled a hole in the wall facing the street and installed a box, so I have to place the box nearby. As for the repeater, yes, it's exactly the one you linked. I didn't know that you could buy an access point. I'll check that out. Thanks a lot!

      Exactly. He submitted the request without testing the box and it's definitely Bouygues... Plus, the first box didn't work, I struggled to get another one, anyway, I'll spare you the details. The ADSL box was in my entrance, it was perfect because the other rooms are around it, now it's in my office near the window that faces the street, where he did the connection...
