Hello everyone,

Tonight, when I turned on my Windows 10 laptop, it got stuck on the message "Press the ESC Key for startup menu."
I pressed Esc and had other menus, but since I am a complete novice, I didn't venture further.... By some miracle, and after several restarts, the laptop turned back on.
But I think that if it crashed once, it might do it again at the next startup.
Should I scan or repair something?
Should I perform some actions?
Would anyone be kind enough to guide me?

    Hello,

    Back up your data, bookmarks, etc...

    If you don't have another PC, prepare a Windows 10 installation USB stick so you won't be caught off guard.

    "Download Now the tool"

    https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/software-download/windows10

    Make a 8GB or larger USB stick, everything will be erased on the stick

    IF you already have the Windows ISO file, you can create your stick with Rufus

    Otherwise, you can simply run a chkdsk /f c: from the command prompt as Admin

      You need to launch CMD as an admin by right-clicking.

    Hello
    You received a request for "access to the startup menu" from the BIOS (before Windows loads...)
    This allows you to boot from a USB stick instead of your usual hard drive (good for troubleshooting)...
    This message can appear on its own in case of a conflict during your startup (presence of a bootable USB stick or a DVD, etc.) or if a battery (internal clock battery that keeps the settings for startup and date/time) is dead (not easy to access on a laptop).
    It's not a big deal but it may happen again if you don't do anything.
    To exit this menu, choose the disk from the list that appears (not easy, usually SATA...) using the up/down arrows and confirm with "Enter".

        You put the file on your desktop, and you create your key with it, it will download a Windows .ISO file, if you can keep it for the future, it might be useful, (You can use Rufus in this case).

        The next version 2009 is coming very soon, I wonder if you shouldn't wait a bit to get the latest version right away, it was scheduled for early October, but if you have an emergency, it's better to have your USB key right away.

    You may need to indicate the correct disk to boot in the BOOT section.

    Otherwise, as mentioned by Macintosh (Hello by the way)

    The CMOS memory battery may be dead; if it doesn't retain the settings, that's it.

    When you turn off the PC and unplug the power for 2 minutes, go into the BIOS, is the time correct?

    If it doesn't keep the time, the battery is dead.

    So check the BOOT section in the BIOS to make sure everything is in the correct order.

    If that's not the problem, it might be a corruption of your system disk.

    CHKDSK could fix it, otherwise a reinstall.

        Do you have a key to press to enter the BIOS/Setup at startup?

        It depends on the PCs and the BIOS.

        Upon exiting, after making changes, you need to select Save and Exit.
