My computer says "press the esc key for startup menu" when I start it up and doesn't understand anything.

    Do you have printers, hard drives, etc. connected to your computer?
    Try unplugging them, turn it on, and see if that solves the problem.

      Actually, I did a Windows update and when I restarted it, it did this.

      No, it's a laptop and I had my TV connected to it. I unplugged it to perform the update and I restarted it without being connected to the TV.
