disappeared emails in Zimbra Free inbox

Question

Hello,
My messages from the Zimbra Free inbox of my email have disappeared.
Can they be recovered somewhere? The other folders in the email (sent, spam, trash) are intact.
After contacting Free: computer hacking or virus?? and consult an IT professional??

Hello,
Thank you for the response. I do not want to purge the emails from the trash but only to recover the emails from my inbox that disappeared between the morning and the afternoon.
They are not in the trash or anywhere else in the mail folders.

Hello Chris315,

Two hypotheses:

- Either they were "pulled" by newly implemented equipment (PC with Outlook, smartphone, tablet) on which the account is set up as POP without the option to keep emails on the server and they are on the said device.

- Or it’s a case of account hacking and the hacker imported them to their own device and deleted them from the server, making them irretrievable.

When in doubt, change your password to a very strong one.

Hello, Thank you for the response. What do we mean by "throttled" and by the account defined as "POP"? I'm not a tech expert and this seems difficult to understand.  Thanks again.

In an equipment that uses messaging software like Outlook, emails are downloaded from the server to it, and if the account uses the POP protocol (as opposed to IMAP), they are either deleted immediately or after a certain time, or never, depending on the account settings in that equipment. That's what I mean by "pulled" because if we then check the account on the server, the received emails are no longer there and they are in the software on the said equipment.

By default, Outlook deletes them immediately from the server. Do you use this software?

The use of POP or IMAP is visible in the incoming server settings of the account.

We need to know what you use to check your emails.
