Hi, I'm using Windows 10 and the frame around my icons is super large, how can I make them a normal size?

Good evening,
Another tip: Check in the registry the spacing and icon size settings.
Tutorial here
You need to go to the registry at this location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
Check the values concerning the icons, especially the spacings and Shell Icon Size.
For your information, here’s what I have on my computer:
Be careful. Don’t do anything reckless and take note of what you modify (if necessary).

Hello,
Right-click on an empty area of the desktop and select Display settings.
Then change the screen resolution (Choose what is recommended, often 1920 x 1080).

good advice but already done, I've tried several resolutions but nothing works. the recommended resolution is 3840 x 2160 (4k)

Hello,
1- Since the Wifi icon isn't visible, it suggests you have a desktop PC unless it's hidden among the icons in the taskbar, which would be surprising.
Based on this assumption, start by checking the menu on your external screen.
Sometimes there is an Auto (automatic) button to adjust the screen or a reset button (most often in the menu) to reset the display of the screen.
Check and recheck the connections behind the screen; a cable might have moved, or try with another HDMI or VGA cable.
2- Fiddling isn't exactly the term, but you get it; the icons can be fixed.
→ Delete the Windows icon cache
→ icon display issue
3- Change your wallpaper [background image], avoid Windows themes
Settings → Personalization
Then apply this procedure (Show colors at startup, in the taskbar, and in the Action Center option)
4- Update your graphics card driver if available.
If you haven't got anything, restore the previous driver in the task manager under the Graphics section.
Because sometimes, and it may get worse with optional updates (yes, there are indeed drivers to install, but you have to do it manually) since version 2004 of W10, which brings us to point 5
5- Provide your version of W10
In the search box on the taskbar, in your case, it's the little circle (a magnifying glass) next to the Start button.
Type → winver
Note the version in your next message
Example → 2004 version 1901.450
5- Try a system restore to a previous date.
If you haven't got anything → Repair Windows 10 without data loss
That's to be done as a last resort
6- Since when did this happen?
We can clearly see a huge horizontal shadow on the Recycle Bin icon.
Windows does have an option to disable the shadow:
In the search box (Magnifying glass) on the taskbar, type or copy/paste → adjust the appearance and performance of Windows
Click on adjust appearance and performance
Try to uncheck:
- Show shadows under windows
- Use shadows for icon names on the desktop
Or select/check the box → Let Windows choose what's best for my computer
After an update???
Ps, I greet Pierrot.
See you later

hi, it's been doing this for 6 or 7 months but I didn't care too much, now it's starting to annoy me. I've tried almost everything you suggested, except for the restore, I don't want to reinstall everything.
(Repairing Windows 10 without data loss) will it delete all my games and software, or will everything stay without reinstallation?

I went into "windows metric" and changed the values of "iconspacing" and "iconverticalspacing" to match yours and I restarted the PC. And it worked. For your information, the first was at "-37000" and the second at "-32000". I don't know why those values changed, but the problem is solved. Thank you again.
Have a nice day!
And good luck to Alain.
