my graphics card does not appear in my device manager... Solved

Question

Hello, Good evening    So, I recently changed my graphics card... I switched from an MSI to a Sapphire Radeon...  But when I installed it, my computer didn't recognize it by default, but it used the motherboard as the graphics card.  So I went to the Device Manager and uninstalled the graphics card in the corresponding tab... However, I restarted my PC and went back to check, and now I don't even have a graphics card tab anymore.  I looked at various cloud services and the AMD website to download the new drivers, but every time in the middle of the download my screen went dark and wouldn't come back on. After  restarting my PC, no change... Yet the fans on my card are running and various cloud services can detect it.  I hope you can help me...

Hi, download this https://www2.ati.com/drivers/amdcleanuputility-x64.exe, it will allow you to properly uninstall your drivers then follow the instructions. After that, get back to me.

Good evening,  You will need to provide us with your hardware configuration and the specific model of those two graphics cards.  Do you know how to enter the BIOS?  When you start up, do you see the image from your new graphics card or do you have to boot using the graphics card from your motherboard?

Good evening again, and thank you for your quick responses.  The link to the AMD site doesn't work... but if your reasoning is correct, I just need to uninstall and reinstall my driver?  Otherwise, I don't know what hardware configuration is or where to find it... However, my current graphics card is an AMD Radeon Sapphire HD 7970.  Also, I don't know if my PC is using the graphics card or not, but one of my games tells me at launch that my graphics card is not powerful enough, yet it should be, so I conclude that my PC is using my motherboard.

Socket AM2 is old, have you installed the very latest version of the BIOS?  What is the PCI-E standard on this motherboard and that of this graphics card?

Good evening, The subject will remain as it is if there is no solution.  Think about whether your power supply is strong enough for your GPU.  And try with your new GPU in place: unplug the power open the PC and remove the BIOS battery (flat battery on the motherboard) hold the power button down for 1 minute put the battery back and plug it back in see what it gives.  When you say you don't know which card you have display on, it's simple: if you're plugged into the screen socket of the motherboard, it's the processor's chipset, and if you're plugged into the screen output of the graphics card, then it's the graphics card that displays (or not displays).
