Hello,
Depending on the version, we've had blue, we've had gray, and now we have black (and it's not new).
On version 365, it's black; on version 2019, it's still gray.
PowerPoint 365 is gray as well.
In the past, we could change the selection color through Windows colors, but that was before...
So, we'll have to get used to black. I would like to clarify that the selection color is black and the font turns white, and in fact, the color of the selected text varies depending on the color of the input text, unlike 2019.

no, this is not a "highlighting" of text but indeed the act of selecting the text which is darkened (instead of being gray or blue, I can't remember). -
Try changing the Windows theme (settings) ...
