Hello
I have a printer that works with a computer running Windows 10. How can I transfer the driver to another computer equipped with Windows XP using a USB stick or external hard drive?

Configuration: Windows / Edge 83.0.478.54

Hello
technically, it can be done, but your problem is that the two PCs are not using the same system, so it won't be the same driver.
you first need to find a driver for XP, and I assume that's where it gets stuck

give it a shot anyway: but be careful, on the USB stick you need to put the driver setup, not the driver itself as you see it installed. (exe)
then, I'm not sure it will work, or work with all the functions of the printer, due to the system difference
what printer is it? brand/model

Hello
thank you for taking an interest in my problem. It concerns the CANON PIXMA IX6850 printer.
Originally, my issue is that I am using specific software on Windows XP that does not work on Windows 10, so I can't print my work. For me, there are 2 solutions
- installing a driver on the Windows XP PC
- installing PDF Creator on Windows XP, so I could transfer the PDF files to the Windows 10 PC, but that's a bit off-topic, I will express it in another request.

re
you are lucky; for this printer, the drivers are available for Windows 10 but also (still) for XP, whether it's XP in 32 bits and even in 64, which is rarer
https://www.canon.fr/support/consumer_products/products/printers/inkjet/pixma_ix_series/pixma_ix6850.html
just go to the link and choose your system then download it to a USB flash drive, or directly from the concerned PC.
ps: before installing, remember to keep all this in a safe place, somewhere other than a flash drive, so you can reinstall later if needed, without having to redownload
not sure the drivers will be available much longer.

RE
I followed the procedure, but I'm never asked to install on the USB key; it installs on my PC connected to the internet. How can I direct the download to my USB key?

re
open your downloads folder then right click on properties
Select the Location tab.
Click on Move.
Select the new folder.
Accept the move of the files.
Click OK to close the Properties window.
note the original path to return there later using the same method

otherwise you can also download to the Windows 10 PC, then "send to" or copy-paste -> the drive afterwards; of course without opening the file
it will only take a few more minutes, but you won't change anything

I went with your Canon link, I chose the 32-bit version for XP. I then copied (without opening) the exe file to my USB drive. I went to my PC with XP with my USB drive. From my USB drive, I launched the file, it spun for 1 second, then this message appeared
"The acquisition on the driver and software has failed. Check the network connection and try again."

re
is this the file you obtained?
win-ix6800-1_1-mcd.exe
if so, right-click on it and then send to -> the key
is this what you did?
if yes, then
before installing from the key, extract the file using winzip or 7zip, or any other extraction software, then in the list of extracted files, click on setup or exe
make sure to unplug the USB cable from the printer (which will remain powered on)
then start the installation
if it doesn't work, it’s possible that there are traces of an old driver or an old printer on the XP PC

It must be the right one, but did you unzip it?

Hello, sometimes if we decompress instead of running, we end up with files with incomplete names that cannot be used.

So it's better to execute the file than to decompress it when it has the type "exe"

There are even packs in "ZIP" to decompress that contain a "setup.exe", and there are also two possible methods depending on what the creator of that pack intended to do:
1- Install drivers manually via the Device Manager
2- Mandatory installation via "setup.exe" which will complete deliberately incomplete names preventing manual installation

I don't know why some choose the second option? What is the point, if there is a possible justification?

Thank you, but it's starting to become complicated for me. Is it a good solution if I contact Canon?

How is your PC running XP connected to this printer?

I haven’t connected it yet. Do I need to do it for the installation?

Many USB devices are installed as follows:

Click on the exe you downloaded for XP; if the process starts automatically, you should have an interface that indicates what to do. If nothing is indicated, there is a chance that this first exe is only meant to decompress the content somewhere.

If that's the case, you need to go to the created folder and check if you can find the "setup" or "setup.exe," depending on whether you display extensions or not.

You click on it, and it will either launch the installation process, showing you a device menu and telling you what to do, or it will install the drivers, then prompt you to restart. At that point, you connect your printer via USB and turn it on; a window should appear to guide you on what to do.

So have a great Sunday or end of Sunday!

I think you need to click on "resolved" for the title of your topic to turn green.
