Cell merging not possible (command grayed out)

Hello,

In a file where I have multiple sheets, the merge cells command is grayed out in the sheet I am working on.
I read in another post (on Excel) that this might be due to some data from my sheet being referenced in another sheet. I have never encountered this problem before.

What can I do?

    It's strange... this morning when I opened my file, the command was available again!
