In Impress, it's impossible to view a video in slideshow.

Hello,

I am currently trying to make a slideshow with "Libreoffice Impress" as I do every time I return from vacation. But this time, instead of just putting images, I felt the need to add a small video in wmv format.

I save my file as "ppt", I click on the slide where I want to put this video, then on insert/Sound or video, and I indicate the path to this small video.

So far, so good. I save, click on the slideshow tab, and select "Start from current slide," which for me is 2 slides above the one where my video is located. And this video starts every time.

I save this file as "pps," and when I run it, the video image appears fine, but it doesn't start. Moreover, if I convert this file back to "ppt," the image of my video no longer appears; instead, there's a black frame and an icon representing a film strip, and the video doesn't start.
Could you please tell me what I might have forgotten to do? Thank you for your help.

Configuration: Windows / Firefox 74.0

    Thank you for this response, but I feel more comfortable with Impress.

    Anyway, when I use PowerPoint to open my slideshow, I insert my video, but I encounter the same problem.
    I just downloaded another software called "FreeOffice", I inserted my video and everything works, but the problem is that I cannot open this slideshow with PowerPoint, nor with the viewer; with Impress it opens but in very poor quality and I don't even know if the video starts. With PP, a message tells me that it has detected a problem with this file, its opening has been blocked to protect my computer.

    Thank you yclik for this response and the link that I have browsed from top to bottom and bottom to top.

    I changed the format of my video from "wmv" to "avi", but my problem remains the same. When I run tests the slideshow opens, everything works, but as soon as I close this slideshow, rename it to "pps" and launch it, the video disappears.

    I don't see what I can do, thank you for your help.

    Renaming does not convert to PPS; it would probably be better to save it as PPT.

    No, no changes; I just renamed it to "ppt" and the video disappears when starting the slideshow, just like with "pps". This whole thing is incomprehensible.

    by indicating "probably put it in PPT" I meant the command:
    File>save as....
    -select ppt

    Good evening, I did this operation again by selecting "Save as: PowerPoint 97-2003 (*.ppt)" since this is the software I have, no money or need to have the other versions.

    If you have PowerPoint, why use Impress to create a PPT?

    The answer is cryptic; you are using the software format.
    Impress = ODP
    Powerpoint = PPT
    Doing one with the other gives the result you describe.

    Hello, thank you for this reply, at least I learned a new word "sibylline" (thanks Google)
    I would like to try saving it with the "ODP" extension, but when I transfer this slideshow to my friends, they will only be able to read it with LibreOffice or OpenOffice. I will do a test.

    PS: I just did this test by changing the extension from "pps" to "odp" and the video plays, my problem is that my contacts who do not have LibreOffice will not be able to view it, which is a bit unusual, don’t you think lol

    What is even more incredible is that if I delete this video from the slide, I can open my slideshow with LibreOffice, OpenOffice, or PowerPoint without any issues; it is indeed this "insertion" of the video that is causing the problem, and how can the creators of these software not fix it?

    Thank you for this link, but I had to struggle quite a bit, not knowing English at all. I registered, and I sent my comments using Google Translate, but I'm not sure if I finalized it correctly.
