Partially Black Screen Samsung S7

Question

Hello,

After being slightly darker than the rest of the screen, the lower third of my smartphone screen is now completely black.
Can anyone tell me if it is repairable?
I want to specify that my phone hasn't fallen and I haven't installed anything on it recently.

Hello,
I also have the same problem with 1/4 of the screen at the bottom flickering and then turning black. And it keeps switching from one state to another.
I followed all the procedures from the link except for the reset, but there was no result.
Apparently, those who tried the reset couldn't solve the problem either.
I also tested the hairdryer, and I immediately see the result: it works again! But not for very long, as the problem comes back quickly.
So what is causing this? The screen, the motherboard, or something else?

Hello,
Thank you for the link. However, my problem is still not resolved. The only suggestion I haven't tried is the reset, but right now I prefer to have a bit of visible screen rather than nothing at all, and I don't want to take the risk of my smartphone not working at all...

The problem has reappeared at my place. Like you, I'm considering a reset. I'm not afraid that it won't work at all after the reset. I'm more concerned about the big task of retrieving all my contacts, messages, and apps, despite a backup.
Have you tried all the solutions suggested in the link?

same problem for 3 weeks. Tonight it started flickering and then returned to normal, and again black band after 1 hour.

Thank you for your information. I'm afraid the repairers are right! Yet I didn't think so. Since the issue is intermittent, it suggests a bad connection. For that, I put my phone through some stress by twisting it and other constraints without any results. Perhaps I didn't insist enough.

Same problem for me on the S7, I don't dare to reset it for fear of losing everything, especially if it doesn't work. I was told it could be the screen... to change?? Or does the whole phone need to be replaced...?! Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem. No impact. The screen started flickering and now 3/4 of the screen is black. I can see the menus like Wi-Fi, airplane mode, etc., and even read the first line of WhatsApp messages. It's impossible to save the data or enter an unlock code. According to a repairer, it might be the motherboard. He said there would be no more updates for the Galaxy S7 by the end of 2020: I have tried all the procedures without success. Thanks for any response if there is a solution besides buying a new one.

Hello, I have the same problem. I heated it a bit with a hairdryer and it worked normally again. I occasionally get a bar at the bottom of the screen, I warm it up a little and it works again, but I don't know how long it will last...!

For my part, the same problem. I'm being told that it's not the screen since when I send the screenshot with the black band, the person receives the screen as normal "in full"… (?)
I'm considering backing up the data on Kies then doing a reset (?...)

Hello,
I also noticed that the screenshots taken while the display was defective (black two-thirds of the time) were correct.
It should be noted that screenshots are not taken by the cameras located on the front and back of the screen, but perhaps by digital reconstruction of the screen or by electronic scanning. It would be interesting for a specialist to explain how a smartphone screen is made and how the screenshot is captured.
It is good to back up the data on your device and WhatsApp (check WhatsApp settings for automatic backup) and to use the SmartSwitch program for backing up Samsung devices.

Hello, so for those who are experiencing the following issues:
1/4 of the bottom of the s7 screen that flickers then goes black, especially when increasing the backlight, a problem that worsens over time, disappearing after a blow from a hairdryer (?!) : it’s the screen and not the motherboard that is at fault. Solution = change the touchscreen and the screen (mandatory). 129 euros in my case with a pro.
