Same problem.
FileZilla does indeed allow you to transfer your local files to a remote system. But if the local files are not visible to FileZilla, it's complicated ;) Same goes for working on a virtual machine. That's still the basic principle of operation. It's outrageous to get a response like that.
So it's impossible to transfer your data to a remote server with a nice message saying "You are not authorized to list this folder."
To respond intelligently to Jessie: update it. It worked for us. MacOS Catalina 10.15.2
