Hello,
Does anyone know who is behind https://docplayer.fr/? There are tons of documents online, usually copied from content that is either free or not free of rights on the internet.
- Is this site reliable for downloading content, or are we at risk of getting malware or spyware?
- Who can you turn to if they use content that belongs to you without your consent?
I
Thank you for your response,

Hello
If you read the 'Terms of Service' for this thing, you'll learn a bit more (but not everything..). Not very transparent, all of this!
Governing Law:
These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia without regard to its principles of conflict of law

Apparently a scam, a site that is going to end up in court.
I found confidential documents there, from our own startup.
A future scandal, I am going to file a complaint against them. -
Exactly. I tried to contact them in every possible way regarding a hacked document posted by a fake profile and I never received a response.

It's a Russian hacker
Completely illegal

Site owned by a Russian (Vladimir Nesterenko) who "scrapes" millions of PDF documents without the permission of their authors, in at least 19 countries (and 54 domain names!).
One can find everything there, and it is even likely that if you have published a PDF on a site (yours, for example), it is there too!
Loads of sensitive information (confidential, medical, tax, etc.) can be found there without your consent, and I myself have found rental contracts that were present (but hidden) on my rental site and removed for years!
This is clearly a real mafia that rakes in millions of euros (through the omnipresent ads) without being bothered by either Google (which takes its cut from the clicks) or the government, which is at best helpless (the sites are often hosted abroad), or simply indifferent or not even aware (try finding where to report an illegal site!)...
As for the "justice" system in Russia contacted by Mediamusic and "the Rights Alliance", they kindly told them to go elsewhere!
For those who are curious, a good article (in English) by an investigative journalist who tracked down the whole operation:

In short, it should be boycotted!!!
