Hello,
Could you please let me know the retention period for deleted messages on Facebook's servers? I've heard that they don't keep them for long.

Hello,
Never say never.

"Deleting all the content you have posted may take up to 90 days, starting from when you initiate the process. This information is not available on Facebook while we delete it.
However, even after 90 days, copies of your information may remain in the backup system that allows us to recover your data in case of a disaster, software error, or other event leading to data loss. Additionally, in some cases, we may retain your data for legal reasons, violations of our terms of service, or risk prevention. Learn more about our Data Use Policy."

Can't find the most recent complaints, but basically there is a lot of ambiguity regarding stored data and its use. Facebook is domiciled elsewhere and thus relies on the laws of that country for some things and the user’s country for others.
All this /
Changes nothing if your data has been copied and published elsewhere.
In that case, you need to see with each site, each browser, search engine, for their removal according to European law.
Not to mention data breaches /
Just for Facebook, there have already been 50 million accounts’ data stolen, another attack involved 12 million... it’s not rare and not just two or three people.
(the same goes for all other sites, social networks)
To say that NOTHING on the internet is safe and personal.

Hello Jo,
There is no deadline since all your data is never actually deleted.
It is kept for several years.
Best regards,
