Hello,
I have read several times that compatibility should be downward and not the other way around.
A BT 5.0 device can connect to another one with BT 4.0.
How does this work because it’s fine in one direction but not the other, so..... I don’t know what to think?
I want to make a purchase (BT 5.0 earbuds) that I need to connect to my smartphone which is on BT 4.0.
Will it work properly or is there no guarantee?
Thank you in advance...
Configuration: Linux / Firefox 70.0

Hi,
At this level, Bluetooth works like Wi-Fi, SATA, PCI Express, and many others...
Each device tells the other which versions of the standard it is compatible with, and both devices agree to use the highest version that both support.
For example: Samsung phone: I support BT 1; 2; 3; 4; 4.1
Earbuds: I support BT 1; 2; 3; 4; 4.1; 4.2; 5
It will work with Bluetooth revision 4.1. (this is obviously simplified).
