On mac OS 10.8.5, you need to turn to a second-hand version of Office 2011 (versions 2016 and 2019 require at least macOS Yosemite (10.10.x). Free options don’t exist when it comes to Microsoft Office.

However, you can install LibreOffice, a free “compatible” suite (a sort of clone of Office 2013) that will be free. If I'm not mistaken, version 5.4 is the “last compatible” version with Mountain Lion. It can be found on this page, but I don't know if the French localization pack can still be found...

    Hello at your place!

    Hello,

    The installation is free: https://www.microsoft.com/fr-FR/microsoft-365/buy/compare-microsoft-365-products-for-mac

However, usage becomes paid as soon as the trial period is over.
