How to update OS X 10.7.5 Lion?

Hello,

Following an update that crashed my MacBook Pro (built in late 2011), I reset it to factory settings.
I'm on OS X Lion but I would like to update the system; however, I see that OS X Mountain Lion is no longer available and my App Store isn't offering any updates... How should I proceed?

    Why Mountain Lion?

    A late 2011 MacBook Pro supports High Sierra. And High Sierra, while more efficient than Mountain Lion, doesn’t use more resources.

    Whether it’s for Mountain Lion or High Sierra, in fact, as soon as you go above Lion, it’s highly recommended to have at least 8 GB of RAM installed.

      Thank you very much for your response!

      I currently have only 4GB of RAM installed, and I'm thinking of adding more modules.

      This leads me to another question:
      On Apple's website, it states that my MacBook Pro can only support 8GB of RAM, but I have seen on forums that it could actually support 16GB. Do you also have expertise in this area???
