Unable to boot from USB Solved

Hello,

I dusted off my Samsung ATIV 500T laptop, and it consistently boots into the BIOS.
There are three tabs in my BIOS: SysInfo
Security: TPM 2.0 Device (ENABLED), Secure Boot Configuration -> Secure Boot (DISABLED)
Exit

I have copied W8 (it was running on W8) onto my USB drive, which shows up in Boot Override (Exit tab). When I press Enter on it, nothing happens. When I try to boot from the USB by tapping F10, I can either boot from the USB drive or go into the BIOS, and even when I choose the USB drive, I end up in the BIOS.
I’ve tried every possible combination of enabled/disabled settings, with different USB drives, different ports, etc., but nothing works, always the same result.
Any solutions, please?

Hello,

This is not really the standard PC, it needs a 32-bit version of Windows and probably the hand-stitched OEM version for Samsung... and all other versions probably won't work (I assume).

It's likely that its battery is too empty or that for too long, it has lost the content of its 64GB eMMC drive and also its Windows, which is why it starts in BIOS. Or its Windows is corrupted.

Your USB drive must contain a version of Windows 8 in 32-bit that is not UEFI since your "Secure Boot is disabled"; on the contrary, if "Secure Boot" is enabled, a UEFI USB drive is needed.

This USB drive must be created with Rufus by loading the Windows ISO file... https://rufus.ie/

Good evening,  You said: "I therefore put a copy of W8 (it was on W8) on my USB drive"  But how did you create your installation USB???  If you just downloaded a disk image of W8 and simply copied it onto your USB drive, that's not good. Your USB will not be bootable, so it won't be able to start up.  As mentioned, take the W8 ISO, then use software like Rufus to create the USB drive. It's the software that puts the ISO and makes your USB bootable. (set partition type to GPT for UEFI)  ------------ By the way, secure boot is: Secure Boot is a technology in which the system firmware verifies that the system boot loader is signed with a cryptographic key authorized by a database contained within the firmware. It's simple security to prevent unauthorized execution at startup. It has nothing to do with an installation USB created in UEFI or MBR.  And it's better to disable it to avoid issues. But the main concern, to start with, is to make sure your USB was created correctly. If it was improperly created, and you think you might not have done it as instructed, I will detail everything for you to redo it correctly. Let's go step by step to ensure the installation USB drive is set up correctly.

1 > Download the ISO /

(no matter which PC you're using to do it)
An ISO is a disk image, but do not click on it as is.
It's a resource that will help us create an installation USB drive. We need to mount this image.

ISO W 8.1 x 32 home and pro (link valid for 24 hours)

2 > Create the installation USB drive /

Download the Rufus software:

Be careful, empty your USB drive beforehand as everything will be erased.

BIOS should be set to UEFI (and nothing other than UEFI, no CSM or legacy mode enabled)
and disable secure boot
(by default, UEFI mode should be fine, so just disable secure boot if the PC doesn’t boot from the USB drive)
Confirm when exiting (F10 and confirmation)

Turn off the PC
Plug in the USB drive
Restart
The PC should boot directly from the USB drive for the installation.
