SSD Stuck in Read-Only Mode

Hello,

I am writing to you because I am encountering an issue for the first time.

I installed Windows 10 on a PNY CS900 SSD.

Everything was working perfectly, but suddenly I encountered a blue screen at startup.

Since I had no way to repair it, I opted to reinstall the system.

That's where the problem arises.

The installation fails because it cannot copy the files to the hard drive.

I tried to format it, impossible.

I attempted to use Gparted, impossible. Same goes for diskpart.

When I connect it to another computer, I can access the data but all in read-only mode; I can read but cannot delete anything. If I modify the permissions, it is denied.

I have performed SSD tests with several applications, and each time the SSD is fine.

It was purchased in May 2019.

Do you have any assistance?

Thank you

Configuration: Windows 10 / Firefox 67.0

Hello,

I advise you to contact the seller and request an exchange for your disk.

This is exactly the symptom of a disk that has lived too long; it's at the maximum of its write cycles... It's over, you can only read its content now.

Certainly, this is not normal... but it happens from time to time... SSD reliability has not yet reached that of HDDs (that's my opinion). Personally, I've already changed three in three years, in this case... However, by doing more in-depth tests... We realize that there is a point where it gets stuck, and it's always the same memory address...

That said, the suppliers had no difficulties replacing them.

Okay, even if the SSD is only a few months old, it hasn't had many write cycles, has it?

Well, yes, that's for sure... but it's an anomaly, you're no longer in the SSD's Normal operation... and it should be guaranteed.

I believe that these SSDs have a memory cell block that has deteriorated or the addressing... and it quickly fills up the replacement addresses which are nevertheless limited, then there is no more replacement and the disk becomes "Bad"

Maybe you could read the SMART of the disk, which would be instructive... With HD_tune for example...https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/11625-hd-tune/ you can run the Benchmark, Health, Error Scan tests.. The Health reads the Smart...

It's also important to know that some of these disks do not retain data indefinitely... if they are not powered on from time to time (between two and ten years), otherwise the content becomes corrupted.

Personally, I realized this while making backups with "Acronis True Image"

Here is an example of a 120GB Kingston SSD. The message says HDD, but it does not change for SSDs.

indeed, while other software tells me that everything is fine, your software indicates 1.2% of the disk is damaged, (

Thank you for your help
