AMD FX-8350 Issues, Optimization...

Hello everyone,

So, to be clear with you, in this topic I probably won't be looking for direct answers or an instant solution but rather for some enlightenment.

I have an AMD FX 8350 processor paired with a Nvidia GTX 970 and 16GB of DDR3 RAM all on a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard (rev 5.0).

So, to get to the point, I've seen several benchmarks on YouTube with the same processor and graphics card as mine, but the problem is that I don't have the same performance in the same games as those guys.

I've tried everything, disabling the turbo core (AMD) in the BIOS, boosting the processor to 4.2GHz, installing older drivers on my graphics card (which actually gained me about ten FPS), disabling unnecessary Windows services, updating the BIOS of my motherboard, I even changed to two identical RAM sticks (as I was previously using two non-identical ones) but nothing works; I often experience FPS drops, as if my processor isn't maintaining its frequency well.

I know the FX-8350 isn't a beast for gaming, but given the benchmarks, I was expecting better.

So if anyone here has a solution to boost my PC, settings to adjust in the BIOS? Services to remove, I don't know what else to do... every day I look for new solutions, but nothing concrete :/

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Configuration: Windows / Chrome 76.0.3809.132

Hello,

to guide you, we need some numbers. Like checking the processor frequency when you experience FPS drops, the GPU frequency, your temperatures,...

With Task Manager and HWmonitor for example, or AIDA64 over time.

Hello, first of all, thank you for your reply..

I often check my frequencies and temperatures using CPU-z, Gpu-Z, and Speccy. The thing is, usually the frequencies are relatively stable; the CPU stays between 4099MHz and 4199MHz on average, and the same goes for the graphics card (between 1200MHz and 1299MHz), so I'm not sure...

Then I noticed that the Core Voltage is generally at 1.380V, while I've seen people with it at 1.5; maybe the problem comes from that?

I also think that my motherboard might be too outdated?

The only thing I don't understand is that in the BIOS I've set the CPU to 4.2GHz and the turbo core to 4.4GHz, but generally, it never goes above 4199MHz and mostly stays at 4099MHz in-game... (maybe that's where the problem lies?)

The motherboard is rarely the problem in this kind of case.

You must have done it wrong then, because 4.2GHz is the factory turbo. You need to have at least some knowledge to overclock a processor, as it can also decrease performance. The voltage depends on that... Likewise, when I read that increasing the graphics card frequencies doesn't change anything... Be careful when messing with everything.

And in the end, how many fps are we talking about in less?

Hello,

The settings in the NVIDIA panel can make a difference.

I have already done all the settings I found on the Internet and generally there isn't really much change. I just set the power management to performance, and I even tried overclocking the card with MSI AfterBurner, but there wasn't much change either...

The motherboard chipset is indeed a bit old. Maybe that's where it comes from? Which motherboards were used for the tests you're referring to?

Hello, first of all thank you for your reply and secondly on one of the tests it was on a "MTB-asrock 970a-g/3.1", but I think like you that my motherboard might be a bit old :/

so a 970 chipset while yours is a 760 G.

you also need to check the RAM, frequency, CL...
