Loading new (rechargeable) batteries

Hello,

I just bought two rechargeable batteries for my Philips landline phone because the previous ones were apparently worn out. But since then, I can't hear the phone ringing or make calls. How long does it take to charge so we can use the phone again? The battery symbol is blinking, but my name no longer appears on the phone. Also, when I place the phone on its base, I no longer hear the little ringtone indicating that it is properly placed.
Could someone please help me? I really don't want to buy a new phone, especially since I have a directory in this one.

    Hello,

    I have another idea... your old batteries might not have been dead...???

    But the little charger transformer for the phone is unplugged... or dead... or there’s no power at the outlet.

    This makes the phone battery drain completely... and it doesn’t recharge...

    If you have several devices, you can swap it with another one, and you'll see if the battery charges or not.

        And here the suggestion is to put your rechargeable batteries on a 'normal' battery charger for a few minutes. If it charges, then the batteries are fine. So it could either be the original phone charger that is the issue or the limitation I mention below that prevents charging with a 'normal' battery, but by stripping the battery at the bottom it works (IF that is indeed the issue).
