Mysteriously converted Word files to .OOXML

Hello,
Following a Windows update done on Saturday, all my Word files have automatically been converted to OOXML text documents and open in WordPad.
How can I revert this?
Help! Thank you!
(P.S.: I’m not good with computers, please use a "Word for Dummies" type vocabulary.)

Good evening,
Unless I'm mistaken, right-click on an "OOXML" file
2) to the right, it opens with Wordpad, click on edit
3) in the "opens with" display, click on Word.
Don't forget to check "always open..."
All your files with the OOXML extension will open in Word.
