Office file opening error

Hello,

When I try to open certain Word 2003 or Excel 2003 files, I get the following message:

"Word encountered an error while opening the file. Try checking the file/drive permissions, checking that memory and disk space are sufficient, opening the file with the Text Recovery converter"

I have tried to open and repair, open with the converter. Nothing works. I can recover part of the text without formatting by opening it with Notepad.

I noticed that the files I cannot open are 4 KB in size.

I cannot open these files (which are on my USB drive) either from home or from work.

If you have a solution to suggest, thank you in advance.
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.12 Office 2003

    Good evening,

Thank you for your reply but it didn't work (your link was for Word 2007 but I managed to find one for Word 2003). In fact, this size of 4 KB for my corrupted files is very strange.

      Hi,

      General for MS Office applications:
DO NOT open the file by clicking on it!
      Open the application.
File>Open>Open (at the bottom right of the window)>Dropdown menu: choose "OPEN and repair"

If that doesn't work ... little chance.

      See you later.

It is possible that your file is blocked because it was created on another computer.
To unblock it, and thus read it:

right-click > Properties > check the unblock box at the bottom right

It no longer appears once the file is unblocked.
If it is not present, it is another problem, and I am powerless.
