Hello,

As indicated in the title, for the past 2 days I've been having this problem: my brightness is low when I'm on the desktop because I've lowered it, however after 2 seconds of putting my Minecraft in fullscreen my brightness is at max, then as soon as I exit fullscreen I return to the low brightness. For the past 3 months, I haven't had any problems like this but for the last 2 days I've had this fullscreen issue. Additionally, my f9 and f10 keys combined with the fn key do not work: these are the keys to increase and decrease brightness, I don't know if it's a Windows issue or something else. However, the f6 and f7 keys: the keys to decrease and increase volume work very well.

Thank you in advance for your responses,
Nizar

Hi,

If you don't have an SSD, try defragmentation. The problem is probably due to Windows as you mentioned.

Do you use a Mac or a Windows?

I use a Windows 10 Home and I have an SSD, and from what I have read, you should not defragment an SSD.

do you have another solution???

A system restore, basically reverting to a previous date of your Windows. Or you can try a repair using the Windows repair tool.

Okay, I'm trying this right away and I'll tell you the results.

Thank you very much for your response. I did a Windows reset while keeping my files and now it works; I indeed no longer see any changes in brightness.

Perfect :), probably due to an update (driver or Windows) that must have installed poorly.

Sorry, but after a few days the problem came back and I don't have the heart to do another Windows reset. Could you suggest another solution? (I even think, although I'm not sure, that the VBO might have something to do with it.)

Check if all your drivers are up to date. And no, I don't think it's due to the VBO.

I just updated all my drivers and I still have this problem. I want to explain something; I don't know if it's a coincidence or if that's really the issue, but I had just installed Optifine, then I launched it, and it was from that point that I started having my problem again. Then I deleted it and went back to the normal one, but now I'm constantly having the same problem again. There you go.

Is it only in Minecraft that you're having this issue?

I think because when I put other applications like Chrome in full screen, it's normal, there is no change.

When you put it in windowed mode, does it keep the base gamma? Can you reduce the gamma or brightness in the game settings?

Otherwise, yes, the problem might be due to OptiFine, which increases the game's gamma (or brightness).

In fact, the problem doesn't come from Minecraft; it does the same thing with Counter-Strike, so you can think of another solution.

Otherwise, after that, I don't know. Basically, we would need to lower the brightness in full screen mode without changing the Windows settings, and I have no idea if that is even possible.

I can't find the indicated thing.

In your games, it's the outlines of the objects that are too bright, almost as if there were no shadows on them, or is it that the image itself is too white?

If the image is too white, it’s the Brightness or the Gamma that are too high. If it's the lack of shadows on the objects, it's due to "ambient occlusion" which is probably disabled.

After that, if it’s neither of those two, personally I can’t help you further. Because I don’t know of any other way to adjust the brightness in fullscreen.

In fact, when Minecraft is in fullscreen, the light is too white (like that of Windows), whereas in Minecraft, the brightness that can be adjusted has more or less "shadows," as you say, even if the adjustment is called brightness.

In your screen settings, what do you have for "Brightness" and "Contrast"? Similarly, what are your graphics card settings?

I just came back from not doing a reset but a clean restart of Windows while keeping my files, and the problem is gone.
