Increase RAM from 4 to 8GB Solved

Hello,
My name is Vincent, I'm 14 years old, and one day I had the idea to put 8GB of RAM in my HP laptop, which originally had only 4GB of DDR3 PC3. I bought the same one I already had to avoid any compatibility issues, and when I turned on my laptop, my task manager showed 4GB, and when I right-clicked on 'This PC' and checked properties, it said installed RAM: 4GB. I decided to go on some forums, I read and, thanks to that, I installed an application called Speccy, which told me I had 8GB of DDR3, and CPU-Z told me slot 1 has 4GB and slot 2 has 4GB, and I didn't see any difference. I watched some videos, and they told me to update my BIOS, but that didn't change anything, and my BIOS indicated 4GB. I reinstalled Windows 10, and still nothing. I'm really frustrated; please help me.
I'm really sad that mine never works while others do.

RAM: 4GB DDR3 or 8GB DDR3 Hynix, I don't know now I'm doubting.

Hello Timoteil,

At 14 years old, you have plenty of time to learn both from solved problems through forums and from our ongoing learning experience.

In short, there isn't necessarily a contradiction between what cpuz indicates (2x4Gb) and what the task manager or system manager shows.
Indeed, you haven't mentioned whether your OS is installed in 32-bit or if your processor is in that format.

In that case, even with 8 Gb of RAM installed, the system will manage and indicate 4 Gb (actually around 3 point something).

Furthermore, it's likely that applications optimized for 8 Gb will run fine but without performance improvements.

As for games (which you haven't mentioned), it's mainly the graphics card and its memory that are critical.

Hello,

Bios only sees one, so Windows sees one too, and the software still sees two.

Do you have the references for each module?
And the reference for the PC?

You never know, we might see a small difference in specifications that could cause the motherboard not to support it.
(A small letter added or omitted or another difference in the reference can change everything)

Your HMT351S6CFR8C-PB memory module is not compatible with the other one and your PC.
It requires 1.50 volts while your PC needs 1.35 volts.
(This seems to make it visible but non-functional)

Another possible difference, but there's no need to look further, you should remove it to avoid any issues and buy a suitable one.

Advice for next time, use a software tool like the one you used to determine the specifications you need, or additionally check Crucial's site (without implying to buy there, but to see what is compatible with your PC).

Because if you're going for the purchase of a pair (2 sticks of 4 GB, so 8 in total), there are plenty of choices and they would necessarily be in dual.

Look tomorrow with a clear head, check the sites where you want to order, search and provide the reference or page first to confirm or not the compatibility.

It's already something good if RAM is OK  For your HDD at 100%, indicate which processes are consuming the most. What is the one at 68%?
