PC turned off when I inserted a USB drive and won't turn back on.

Good evening,
I plugged a new USB flash drive into my laptop, and the PC shut down. It's impossible to turn it back on. It's an old Toshiba Satellite Pro. I thought it might be a charger issue.
Without any suspicion, my daughter, who needed to save her school work, tried to connect this drive to her HP 15-bs006nz. There was a strange noise, and the PC shut down.
It's impossible to turn it back on.
Does anyone have an idea of what might have happened?

    Good evening

    I don't know what might have happened, but you can try first to unplug everything: USB, battery, charger, and hold down the power button on the PC for a good 20 seconds.

      Thank you for your response. I followed your instructions, then reinserted the battery and tried to start it again. Nothing happens. Just the light comes on for 2 seconds.

      It might be a short circuit. The best thing to do would be to wait for a professional's opinion.

    What surprises me most is that this same USB drive caused two computers to crash..
    Exaggerating, I would have suspected a kill USB drive; is the origin of this drive reliable?

      Yes, this is a gift from a very regular supplier for many years and he has already given us other USB drives that have always worked well.
      But, indeed, this was its first use.
      What can we do to repair the damage?

      If we're talking about a case of a kill USB, some circuits in the computer must have burned out.
      If the computer is under warranty, the best would be to have it checked to confirm (if this turns out to be true, I doubt the warranty would cover such an accident).
      As for the USB drive, I would have returned it to the supplier to see if there is an issue with it.
      What brand is the USB drive?
