I am still waiting for a response.
Can I delete the thumbnails from my storage space without risking losing my photos and images in my gallery?

In my storage, the thumbnails are displayed as small photos and I have to check them to delete them..!!
But in my gallery, I have both displays; albums and photos available to view!!

Forget this line: But if you request display with icons instead of a list, the thumbnails will be recreated.
There is always an icon associated with the file, which is a thumbnail of the photo. We can only choose the size of this thumbnail. But there is no display with a list without thumbnails.
It is not impossible for the thumbnails to return.
To delete them quickly in bulk:
Use your smartphone's file manager. The Thumbnails folder is a subfolder of DCIM or Pictures.
Select the first image to delete by long-pressing it. At that moment, a symbol appears at the top of the screen to select all (I can't be more specific: it depends on your file manager). Click on it. Everything is selected, and then you click on the trash can.

If you're having trouble, you have the option to download the CCleaner app from the Play Store.
When the storage analysis is done, click on "View results" and you can choose to delete the thumbnails.
