[Thunderbird] Timeout exceeded Solved

Question

I am using Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 on Windows. I retrieve my email (gmail) via POP.
Intensive use without any problems until a few days ago.

Recently, I have been getting an error message "Connection timed out while connecting to the server pop.gmail.com" every time a large message arrives in my gmail inbox. I have tried other servers than gmail, and the problem is the same.

The only solution I have found so far is to go and delete these large messages in the webmail.

How can I solve this problem?Configuration: Windows XP

I put the solution that worked for my case:
OUtils > Options > Advanced > Connection timeout: 60s (put 300s here instead)

In my case it worked, I no longer get errors like "Connection timeout exceeded"
but unfortunately I still sometimes get errors like "Negative Vibes from server ...."

I was able to solve the problem:

“connection timed out...”

here is the error that occurs in the Thunderbird error console:

Hotmail-SR-BETA: serverComms: Exception: NS_BASE_STREAM_CLOSED.
Error message: Component returned failure code: 0x80470002 (NS_BASE_STREAM_CLOSED) [nsIOutputStream.write]

Download and install the following plugins:

- Webmail and webmail-Hotmail, one after the other.
Configure webmail to use localhost with ports 1240 for pop and 1230 for smtp (by going into the plugin options: Tools -> Add-ons)

Once the Hotmail account is set up, enable “WEBDAV” MODE by going into the options of the Webmail-Hotmail plugin.

There you go, I hope this helps you. It works very well for me.

I have the same problem with Thunderbird, if it indeed comes from the software.

I have Windows, Thunderbird version 2.0.0.12. Until Monday, I could download my emails from Orange directly on Thunderbird, but now I get the error "Timeout exceeded while connecting to server pop.wanadoo.fr".

However, I receive my emails from my neuf-tel address and I tested with Yahoo, it works. It's only with Orange that it no longer works.
I went to the Orange website, I have 66 messages, but impossible to download them in Thunderbird. The first one was over 1 MB, so I deleted it... it doesn't change anything. I've tried extending the connection time, failure.
I've been searching in vain on the forums for over an hour. I tried the command edit, but I get an error when I put in my PASSWORD. I changed it on Orange but I still have the error.

Help, does anyone have a solution?

I had the same problem. I noticed that Thunderbird couldn't load an email with an attachment, and after a minute or two, it showed the error message "Connection to localhost server timed out."
For my part, deleting the overly large messages from my inbox solved the problem... There was no more space! lol

I had the same problem... And by changing the connection timeout, it worked. Set the max time. What I find strange is that my 3 large messages that it couldn't download arrived at the same time. If it downloads them at once, there's no chance it can handle a mailbox full of messages with attachments. So try a timeout of 999 and check your email box often.

I just had this problem, the cause: the date had changed on the PC (why? good question! The joys of Windows...). I was in April instead of May. Date corrected = problem solved.
