Good evening everyone,

First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!

I just registered on this forum because I couldn't find solutions to my problem after a whole day of searching and trying...

On Friday the 7th, Saturday the 8th, and Sunday the 9th of December, I filmed three days of a seminar with my Canon EOS 200D.

On Monday the 10th, I immediately transferred these 59 video files to an external hard drive.

Today, I wanted to revisit these videos to make the necessary edits on iMovie. And there’s the problem...

Out of 59 videos, 13 are simply unreadable.

Type: MPEG-4 Video
Size: Zero Bytes (zero bytes on disk)
Location: name of the folder I selected on the external hard drive
Created on: December 12, 2018, at 2:43 PM
Modified on: December 7, 2018, at 7:33 PM
Extension: .MP4

I don’t understand at all what could have happened, and when these 13 files could have been damaged while the others are intact.

I attempted to recover deleted data from my SD card, but I couldn't succeed.

These are all videos of 25-30 minutes that I absolutely need to recover.

What software could I download on my Mac to achieve this?

Thank you for your help,
Have a good evening everyone.

Laura

    Hello,

It is impossible to retrieve data if the file is empty.

Have they been corrupted on the card and was the copy already corrupted? If that's the case, it's totally dead.

But if your file on the PC is empty, unless you have the original, recovery is impossible... And even then, the original has to be intact as well, so...

      Thank you for your response!

I remember watching the videos before transferring them, and everything was working...

The problem is that I deleted these files from the SD card since December 12, and since then I've used this card for other events.

I tried to recover the deleted files from my card, but to no avail; after all, I'm not knowledgeable about this, maybe there are recommended software?

If the card has been used again, it's dead...

As soon as rewrites have taken place, it's hopeless for data recovery, no matter the software.

Unfortunately, the copy is important and here, it would have been useful. But now, without a copy and with the only remaining version corrupted... It's a bit dead :-(

I did it! I recovered all my data thanks to the software TestDisk + PhotoRec.

It was quite complex to understand how the software works and especially to set the right parameters, but I did it.

Have a good evening, and thanks again :)

It's one of the rare cases where he was able to save something.

Because Flash + rewriting, the phenomenon of remanence being lesser than on a hard media (hard disk platter), it is much harder to recover data.

Either the rewriting hasn’t (yet) overwritten the sectors, or there was a real stroke of luck...

In the future, remember to securely back up your data...

    Good evening,
"and since then I've used this card for other events"

There has been a rewrite on the card so it's cooked ....
