External hard drive transformed into local disk
Hello,
Yesterday my Western Digital external hard drive was still working very well. I had some photos from my laptop to put back on it. So I used it for the laptop and then I plugged it back into the desktop, and everything was still fine. I often use my hard drive for both PCs because I do photography.
Today, after starting my desktop, I noticed that my hard drive is no longer displayed as "Element (H)" but as "Local Disk (H)."
I no longer have access to my folders, but especially to my photos from the entire year of 2018.
What should I do, please?
Configuration: Android / Chrome 71.0.3578.99

Hello KvinSchmitt,
Have you tried another USB port or a different USB cable?
Is your drive recognized in Disk Management? Right-click on the Start menu, choose "Disk Management," and take a screenshot of the disks recognized by the operating system.

According to the screenshot, your hard drive's partition has turned to RAW, which means that unfortunately the file system is corrupted. Therefore, in order to recover your information, you have two options:
1. You can use our recovery software, with which you can run a diagnostic to check the files that can be recovered, as long as the device isn’t making clicking sounds. The diagnostic is free, but to proceed with recovery, you will need to purchase a license for the software; alternatively, you can look for third-party software. You can download it at this following link: https://www.seagate.com/fr/fr/services-software/recover/resources/#contact_us
2. You can take your drive to data recovery experts in a lab, if the recovery software does not succeed. You can explore our lab recovery service at this link: https://www.seagate.com/fr/fr/contacts/
Once the data is recovered, we advise you to back up the files on another drive or on the cloud to avoid losing them.
Good luck!
