Hello,
I am trying, in vain, to add a @free.fr account to my Gmail Interface on Android.
My steps are as follows:
+ Add an account
Set up your mail: choose > Other
Enter the email address and password
then NEXT
The system systematically responds:
"The email address or password is incorrect."
This is an attempt at automatic configuration.
If I want to configure it manually, the response is the same:
"The email address or password is incorrect."
I am sure of my address and password.
Where is the problem?
Configuration: Android / Chrome 70.0.3538.110

Bonjour Pierre,
The account must be set up as IMAP. On a mobile device, this is essential to prevent messages from being scattered between the computer and the mobile.
With IMAP, when you delete a message, it is also deleted from the server. So you need to be careful.
Here are the settings I use for my Free accounts on my smartphone.
Incoming settings:
username: full email address
password: xxxxxx
server: imap.free.fr
port: 993
security: SSL/TLS
Outgoing settings:
uncheck: Require authentication
SMTP server: smtp.free.fr
port: 465
security: SSL/TLS
To access the settings:
- In Gmail, click on the three horizontal bars at the top left
- scroll down to Settings
- select the relevant inbox
- scroll to the bottom to find the server settings
(if the virtual keyboard obstructs your view of all the settings, dismiss it by clicking on the back icon at the bottom of the screen)
Have a nice day.
Do you have any idea what the problem might be?
Thank you.
I don't see where your problem is.
The account setup is done almost automatically. What I mentioned in message 4 is to be used in case of difficulties.
When you set up the account, go to Gmail Settings.
The list of accounts will show up, and you click at the bottom of the list on Add an account.
In the next screen, click on Other.
New screen: enter the address and click on manual setup
Then click on Personal (IMAP)
Enter the password.
The next screen summarizes what you have done; confirm by clicking on Next.
For the outgoing server settings, you just need to uncheck Require authentication and click on Next. On the last screen, click on Next.
Normally, the inbox should now be active.
I didn't take a screenshot due to lack of time, but I hope you succeed.
Pierre
Your response to Timal84 also helped me solve my problem.
Thank you very much
