adapter from USB 3.0 to USB 2.0

Hello,

I recently bought a WD Elements external hard drive with a good capacity of 1 terabyte at Fnac (at the same time, that was the only choice available). Everything is fine, I’m putting movies on my hard drive that I’ve previously converted to watch on the television. I have a DVD player that has a USB port. I connect it, but no movie shows up. Then I realize that the USB cable of my external hard drive is USB 3.0, so it won’t work on a 2.0 port. By the way, on another older hard drive I own, I have the 2.0 connection and I was able to watch the program without any problem. Is there a USB adapter that can convert from 3.0 to 2.0 to directly connect my new hard drive?

Hello,  USB 3.0 is backward compatible with 2.0. It will operate at the speed of 2.0. So I think your problem doesn't lie there.

Hello <> FALSE Both are compatible However, indeed, the reading speed possible with USB 3 will never be reached with USB 2 That’s normal, but it should work; you will get a message saying that this device can work faster with USB 3, that's all So no adapter; but if you have space in the CPU (not feasible on a laptop due to cost), then nothing prevents you from installing a USB 3 card on the front or back. I think the issue comes from the management of large capacity disks by your system.

It seems to be more of a compatibility issue regarding the format. Have you checked if the disk format is compatible with the DVD?

Hello, first of all, thank you for your responses. I have replaced this new hard drive and it is indeed readable, except that the list of recorded programs is empty. However, the 4 recordings on the disk were formatted in MPEG to watch on TV. And they do not appear on the list. I put one of the programs on my old hard drive with USB 2.0 and it works perfectly. You don't format in Mpeg... it's the file format for the video..

What was this disk connected to during the recording..? Because often the disk formatting is in EXT3 of Linux and you won't be able to see it on a PC running Windows.

Let's add that some videos from TV recordings can only be played on the player that recorded them... the same goes for streaming...
Because your disk seems to be functioning normally outside of the TV.

In conclusion... very precise contextual information is missing to be able to say anything.

I think you meant formatted in NTFS
but be careful, some TVs only support FAT32 (for recording), you should check yours.
Regarding recordings, if they are from a channel like Canal or another subscription-based pay channel, they are likely copy-protected.
Therefore, they will only be readable on the TV box's hard drive, for example, but not if transferred to an external drive.
As Jeannets pointed out, more information is needed to respond properly.
