Hello everyone.

For my airbrush/artwork activity, I have been using a cutter plotter for a few years.

My old plotter, which worked (very well) with the software "Artcut 2009," died.

So I bought another plotter that I can't get to work with "Artcut" (brand PixMax, 720 mm, recognized by the computer under the name ft232r).

This plotter is sold with a one-year offer for the cutting software "singcut," after which it will become paid. Very expensive! For the moment I create my designs with "Inkscape" and then start the cuts with "singcut."

I’m trying to use the Inkscape software, which should be able to start cuts from what I read on the internet. I tried starting a cut by clicking on "extensions" - "export" - "plotter"... and it doesn’t work. I get this error message:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "plotter.py", line 268, in <module>
e.affect()
File "inkex.py", line 283, in affect
self.effect()
File "plotter.py", line 98, in effect
self.sendHpglToSerial()
File "plotter.py", line 199, in sendHpglToSerial
if 'ould not open port' in inst.strerror:
TypeError: argument of type 'NoneType' is not iterable

It seems you would need to download an Inkcut extension. I found one, but in Linux version. Could someone guide me to get out of this jam? Help me use Inkscape to launch the cuts or advise another cutting software.

Needless to say, I am not very computer-savvy.

Configuration: Windows / Chrome 68.0.3440.106 / Intel i5 / 8GB</module>

    See if you can cut from the driver (with the "Print" command) in Inkscape...
    According to the manual (if it's the same product) http://www.claytonprints.com/resources/pixmax%20vinyl%20cutter%20instruction%20manual%20pme720.pdf
    it seems that there is no need to have specific software.. The driver expects data in a very particular form.. Look at the CorelDraw example for the contour thickness for example... or the color

    Cutting software adds extra features such as layout, centering, etc..

      I just tried without success.
      The tracer is not recognized as a printer.

      Ah ....
      What happens after installing the driver ??
      Does the PDF in the link correspond to your plotter?
      Have you tried the procedure as for Corel?

      Yes.
      As for the driver, I think it installed itself when I first connected the plotter. (Since I can start a cut with SignCut.) But I’m not sure about anything. I’m not a computer pro.
      The PDF matches.
      When you say “see if you can cut from the driver,” do you just want me to send a cut command as if it were a print, is that right?
      I just tried again following step-by-step the information in this link: http://crafty.actifforum.com/t9661-decouper-directement-depuis-inkscape-maj-05-07-2010-p-1
      But when I reach “3. To start the cut, in the File menu choose Print
      Choose Graphtec Craft Robo (for me it should be ft232r)
      Click Preferences”

      My plotter doesn’t appear. I click on "Search for a printer," but I can’t find my device.

      Ah, I just cut something! Phew!!!
      For those who might be in the same situation as me, here’s what I explain.
      I went to "Start menu, Bluetooth and other devices, peripherals and printers"
      There I found my device. Right-click "Properties"
      There, I clicked on "Hardware" and then selected "USB serial port (COM3)"

      Then back to Inkcut.
      Once the vector shape was created, click on "Extensions, Export, Plotter, Connection settings" in "Serial Port" I entered COM3.

      I clicked "Apply" and the cut started.
      I nearly jumped so much because I wasn’t at all expecting it.

    Genial ...!!
