Hello,
I would like to use an old 'HP LaserJet 1200 series' printer with my recent laptop (HP Envy) running on W10 64-bit....
1= I connect the two via USB cable .... my PC does not recognize the HP 1200 .. Could you tell me why?
2= I'm not giving up: I try to proceed with a manual installation through the control panel (devices; printers; ...manual installation; HP printer....). In the list of HP printers, I cannot find the HP LaserJet 1200 which has been a classic
3= I went to the HP website ... I do find the LJ 1200 .... but I still can't properly install the driver.....
I am confused by this seemingly simple problem
Would you have time to help me?
Thank you
Configuration: Windows / Firefox 61.0

Hi
on the HP website:
https://support.hp.com/en-us/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-1200-printer-series/29789
there's a USB driver, have you tried it? -
-
I forgot: the printer is connected to the PC via the USB cable.

Have you tried this driver:

Hello everyone!
I’d like to make a small intervention; if you’re trying to install the driver using the one downloaded from the HP website, the printer should not be connected to the PC when starting the program.
You connect it when the program asks you to.
Then you continue with the installation.
Best regards

Well ... I give up. I tried about 20 solutions without managing to get the HP 1200 recognized ...
Sorry for all of us and for me in particular.-

Well... yes, I'm going to HP... I choose the HP 1200 model; they offer me a bunch of options (it’s never just 1 file) I choose according to my operating system (W10 64bits) and then I download a "zipped" file that I "unzip"… I am informed that 82 files are opened (I think I remember).... I execute the executable among these 82 files.... then I download the ".msi" driver.... and then nothing happens....

PS: I noted during the installation process of the printer for W10, a proposal from MS = "help you expand the selection for older printers" click on "Windows Update"... I tried but I can't connect to "Windows Update"... they suggest trying again later.
-
" 1= that the download was done without issues
2= that the execution of the .exe file was the same
3= that I was informed by a window that 88 files had been unzipped
4 I was then offered to choose the installation option. I opted for the 3rd (= connection via USB)
5= then a window showing installation completed
when I want to print afterward (for example from Word and when I choose a printer ... I can see a printer ".... PCL6" (if I remember correctly)... But when I choose it ... I get a message "printer "error""
Maybe the error is at the end of the installation.
Finishing is not really finishing ...
Did you connect your printer as requested at this step?
(if not, that may explain why the driver cannot find it when you try to print and gives an error)

re,
This printer has a network option
have you tried connecting it to your router and letting Windows search for the printer via the network? If that doesn't solve the problem, let's continue with USB :)
We're going to clean up:
Connect your printer
Go to "Programs and Features"
In the list, remove everything you see that is related to your printer
Sort by date, and delete what was installed last that corresponds to your printer (dot4...)
Go to Device Manager
View tab and check "Show hidden devices"
In the list go to printers, and right-click on all the printers found and "Uninstall", uninstall the driver if it asks you.
A trip to the registry:
In Run type regedit
go here:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
folder Device, right-click on your printer and Delete
folder PrinterPorts, right-click on your printer and Delete
Close the registry
Unplug your printer
Restart your PC
Go to Device Manager and expand the printer folder
Connect your printer, and what happens, is it detected?
Check in "Devices and Printers" is it detected?
If nothing, try this:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/c/msdownload/update/driver/drvs/2013/06/20568741_9f7ed152438e555403cc0ba21cf7518b82d77c24.cab
extract it, then right-click on dot4prt.inf and install -
I am confused by your availability, everyone
Thank you to Astuces72 for the latest advice that I will apply in a week (upon my return: a few days off with the little grandkids! "Are these really vacations...? Yes, there’s definitely pleasure in any case)
