Hello everyone!
Next year I’ll be a student and for my studies, I decided to get a laptop for my courses, so I wondered if with the specs of the laptop I chose (and plan to buy) I could run games, especially GTA V, even on low or mid settings.

I) Here are what I think will help you help me :)

Operating System: Windows 10 Home
Version: 64 Bit
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon 520 with 2 GB DDR3
Graphics Controller: Intel HD Graphics 620
Total Capacity: 4 GB
Capacity of a stick (in GB): 4 GB
Number of sticks: 1
Type: DDR4 SDRAM
Frequency: 2133 MHz
Power: 41 Wh
Power Supply: 65 W
Hard Drive Capacity: 1000.0 GB

For GTA V:
Minimum requirements:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz
RAM: 4 GB
OS: Windows 10 64 Bit, Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2*
Video Card: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
Free Disk Space: 72 GB

For GTA V:
Recommended Requirements:

CPU: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHz (8 CPUs)
RAM: 8 GB
OS: Windows 10 64 Bit, Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD 7870 2GB
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
Free Disk Space: 72 GB

I) Here are my questions (thanks in advance)

1) For GTA V, from what I’ve seen online, the processor should do the job I think, however, it’s the graphics card that I have doubts about as it seems to be more important than the processor for a game :(.

Here’s the benchmark for my (future) graphics card - 760:
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A9-9420&id=3059

The benchmarks for the minimum config:
AMD HD 4870 1GB - 1382:
https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Radeon+HD+4870

NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB - 710:
https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=geforce+9800+gt

And here I have a problem.
"My" benchmark seems weak :(
Also, I find this score on a CPU site, not a GPU site.
So I look at the score for the graphics controller - 925 (not much either I think):
https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Intel+HD+Graphics+620&id=3592

So:
In the minimum config, I’m given two cards as examples (if I understood correctly) but the score of mine (or rather the score of the graphics controller) is between the two others, (710 <925 <1382) so how do I interpret that?
And from what I’ve seen the graphics controller is rather poor for running games :(
How does this work please? Is it unfortunately true? :(

2) During my research (since I’ve been looking for a laptop I’m discovering), I came across DDR. But I didn’t understand one thing: does DDR4 exist separately from DDR4 SDRAM or is it the same thing as DDR4 SDRAM please?
In the hypothesis that the two are different is DDR4 SDRAM faster and more efficient than DDR4?

I am aware that with this config I won’t be able to run very demanding games (beyond GTA V even if I think that one is already quite demanding), but ultimately, in your opinion, could I run this game? Would it be low, mid, or more (I don’t think so)?

Thank you for your help.

    Hello,
what's the processor and price of the laptop?

because you say it has an Intel HD 620 but we don’t know which processor
the benchmark you provided for your GPU is from a CPU that isn’t even in your laptop
and indeed the HD 620 seems to be better than the Radeon 520: https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare/Intel-HD-Graphics-620-vs-Radeon-520/3592vs3797

with this PC you should reach 60 fps in GTA 5, potentially you'll have to use the integrated graphics

it is true that the graphics card is more important than the processor, but on laptops you won’t find a small CPU with a big GPU (manufacturers' constraints), plus on laptops the display couples the graphics card with the processor's chipset (the HD 620).

      Hello Jumulka,
first of all, thank you for your quick response!

Then, the processor of the computer is the Intel® Core™ i5-7200U (2.5 GHz base frequency, up to 3.1 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost technology, 3 MB cache, 2 cores) - 4639:
      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-7200U+%40+2.50GHz&id=2865

      It’s above the minimum configuration:
      - for the Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) - 2957:
      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core2+Quad+Q6600+%40+2.40GHz
      - for the AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core - 2896
      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Phenom+9850+Quad-Core&id=307

All on a laptop sold for 599 euros.

When I go to the HP website (the computer’s site), I see all the specifications of the computer:
      https://h22194.www2.hp.com/fr/fr/laptops/product-details/21625529#!tab=specs
And so I see as graphics card:
      " Dedicated graphics card:
AMD Radeon™ 520 graphics card (2 GB of dedicated DDR3 memory)"
Which has the benchmark of 760:
      https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Radeon+520&id=3797

But if I go to the seller's site (Boulanger: https://m.boulanger.com/c/tous-les-ordinateurs-portables#message_code=20 they also mention a graphics controller: the Intel HD graphics 620 (benchmark: 925).
It’s not very clear: the "official" site, HP, does not mention the graphics controller even though they are the product's designer.
      Or did I miss something?

But apart from that, what do you think of my question about DDR4 and DDR4 SDRAM, Jumulka?
It was: "Does DDR4 exist separately from DDR4 SDRAM or is it the same thing as DDR4 SDRAM please?
In the hypothesis that the two are different, is DDR4 SDRAM faster and more efficient than DDR4?"
And whatever the answer, do you think considering the GPU and CPU that the computer will be able to run the game on medium settings for example?

And out of curiosity: I saw that it is possible to "overclock" a CPU (I don’t believe it’s possible with the one I mentioned), but is it the same with GPUs? Can you overclock a GPU?

And lastly: if I understand correctly for GTA V, my CPU is not optimal but will do the job.
However, since the GPU is not very good, is the CPU going to "compensate" for that lack?
Do you think that with this GPU and CPU, 4GB of RAM will be sufficient or is it a bit tight? Do you think that in this case upgrading to 8GB of RAM is relevant?

Thank you in advance for your answers :)

On laptops, there is always an integrated graphics chipset on the processor, Intel HD for Intel processors, and potentially there is an additional graphics card.
SDRAM is supposed to be faster, but I don't think the difference is significant.
6 or 8 GB would be better for gaming.
As for overclocking, it is not possible on laptops; it can only be done on desktop PCs with AMD processors and some Intel ones.

If you could add an extra €50, you could get this:
      https://www.topachat.com/pages/detail2_cat_est_ordinateurs_puis_rubrique_est_wport_puis_ref_est_in10108452.html

And you shouldn't have any problems with it, but the battery life would be lower. (Combining gaming and battery life is very difficult)

Or not. DDR4 SDRAM = DDR4. It's the same thing, it's just the simplified name.

        Do not confuse with GDDRx.
