downloads folder is not responding

Hello,

Windows 8.1
mozilla+qwant

I have a problem since this morning.
When I try to open my Downloads folder, I get the message: "download not responding"
I have to go through the task manager to stop Windows Explorer; if I don't do it, I see the computer using more and more memory.
Once I stop the process, I have to restart the computer.

I read a solution from a user posted today, which did not help me at all.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Hello

Download FRST from another PC and transfer it via a USB stick to the PC where you need to run the scan

PS: you can run it in safe mode if you have issues in normal mode

Hello,
While looking for system restore points, I saw that Windows had updated at 9:48 AM. A restore will "remove" the update.

I will perform a scan as requested. I will post it this afternoon. I'm working this morning.

In fact, I can't DOWNLOAD frst. Every attempt to download fails since I no longer have access to my download folder, I can't choose the destination folder.  What a hassle.

I was able to restore to a previous point.

I was also able to redo the update.

For now, I have access to the Downloads folder.

Avast SafePrice is in the Firefox extensions, disable it and remove it.

Don't you see C:\Program Files\TrueKey\McAfeeTrueKeyPasswordFilter?

If yes, delete it from C:\Program Files\TrueKey\McAfeeTrueKeyPasswordFilter.

Then, run the fix with FRST.

ok, close all your running programs

temporarily disable Avast >> choose "disable until next reboot"

run a scan with MBAM with the "rootkit search" option

in MBAM, click on Scan >> Custom Scan >> Configure Scan

in the window that opens, check the box "search for rootkits" and click on Scan Now

when the scan is finished, quarantine the detected items and restart the PC

post the deletion report via a copy/paste in your reply

Hello,

I did a test with IE.

I opened two tabs, one of which had the TV channels.
I observed what was happening with the task manager.
At one point, the disk itself reached 99%. I also heard the fan in the tower speeding up.

close all your running programs

start the command prompt as an administrator (Admin command prompt)

in the window copy/paste this command >> DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and hit ENTER

let the PC work and when it's done, restart the PC and see what it gives

Hello,  I'm doing a test with Firefox   three tabs open, two of which are heavy consumers (a live TV channel + a streaming site... an episode in progress).  Disk usage spikes at startup (99%), then drops to 0% to 2% for the disk and 57% for memory. The processor fluctuates between 8% and 11%  I'm going to test with IE  It seems to be going much better, though.

re,  A difference, yes, a little.  For the background processes, there's Avast, HP Simple Pass, Local Service Host, Windows Task Host process.  I don't think I can do more; I had already cleaned up the startup processes.
