Partial image display issue

Good evening everyone,

First of all, thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this post :)
Before coming here, I scoured forums and other resources to find an answer to my issue, but mine seems a bit particular, so I'm diving in, hoping not to create an unnecessary question.

After a copy-paste that caused a "bug" in Word 2013 ("Word is not responding"), I'm encountering a display issue with images that are located only in the last third of one of my documents.
All other images display correctly, while the problematic images have been replaced by a frame saying "The part of the image with the relationship ID rId432 could not be found in the file."

I've tried the following tips to resolve my issue ^^:
- Restarting Word + PC
- The "Show picture placeholders" box is unchecked
- The "Show drawings and text boxes on screen" box is checked
- Saving as a PDF to see if the images appeared (they didn't)
- Trying print preview for the same reason (no success!)
- Changing the extension to .zip and checking the Media folder to see if they were present (same result, apparently only the photos displaying correctly were present)

I understand that copy-pasting in Word can cause this type of problem, but if that's the case, why doesn't it affect my entire document? Is it due to the size of my file (243 MB)? Or the "bug" that occurred during the copy-paste?
Is there a way to recover the part that is no longer displaying?

Thank you again for your thoughts on this issue, hoping to resolve it! =)

Hi.

I can't imagine that you're working on such an important file without regularly making backups? So go back to your last correct backup, select the entire document by pressing [ctrl+A], create a new blank document, and paste.
Compare the sizes of the two files and give us both values...

I didn’t understand what you meant by “my images are all copy-paste in this document (so no way to replace them with copies, unfortunately...).”; please give us additional explanations.

To be very honest with you, my last backup was on March 22 on an external hard drive. Having never encountered this problem before, I made the mistake of not making a more recent backup...

To answer your question, my last backup is about 283.59MB (290,402KB) while my current file is 243MB. Does that help you?

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. What I meant to say is that all the images I included in this document came either from screenshots (using the Snipping tool / Print Screen) or from copy-pasting from web pages (either Right-click -> Copy/Paste or directly Ctrl+C/V). Does that answer your question? Let me know if I'm still not precise enough.

Thanks again for your help, really :)

Yes, the comparison between the file sizes before and after copy-pasting proves to you that there were still 40 MB recovered; these correspond to annotations/markers/tags that Word adds every time you make a new intervention, especially copies, insertions, and modifications. You’ve still saved 8% of memory size!
Of course, that's not enough... If you had stored your screenshots and webpages as image files, instead of pasting them directly (and only) into your document, you could have recovered them now!
But I find it incredible that you haven't made a single backup in over a month!
You should, for such work, make 2 or 3 per week...

In conclusion,
- unfortunately, we can't recover your partial images
- your file is way too large: it needs to be divided into 2 or 3 files of more reasonable size
- in the future, take 3 minutes to back up your file on an external drive after each substantial modification; you’ll save 3 days of useless work restarting what you would have lost...

I can't do anything better than sending you a kiss to comfort you!
