How to retrieve the directory structure?

Hello everyone,

My 500 gigabyte hard drive has crashed and deleted folders with loads of important documents. I've run Photorec and Puran file recovery which have retrieved quite a few documents, but my problem is recovering the file structure. These were professional documents (sorted into dozens of folders and subfolders...) and I have thousands of Word, PDF, Excel, JPEG documents... Reclassifying all of that would be downright impossible. Is there a recovery tool that would allow me not only to recover the files but also to get them back in their original folders (I might be asking for the moon, but you never know, there might be an astronaut among you)?

Thanks in advance!

A.

    Hi,

Some tools are indeed more effective than others for recovering data. However, once the area containing a file has been 'overwritten' by another file, it is no longer possible to recover it.

The loss of the directory structure is caused by the overwriting of an area of the disk that contains the index of your volume, particularly the organization of folders.

Since this data has been overwritten, it is lost and you will therefore not be able to recover the directory structure.

On the bright side, you can already be glad to have recovered some files. ;)

    Good luck reconstructing your organization.

In fact, there hasn't been any recovery a priori, since I normally didn't add anything to the (external) hard drive between the time of the deletion and the discovery of the deletion.
