VLC and its volume variations

Hello,

I have a big problem that is ruining my ears as well as those of my loved ones when watching a movie...
I am in post-production, and it's crucial to do audio-visual editing with my home theater system. Unfortunately, after upgrading my OS to Windows 10, I’ve encountered nothing but issues. Graphic, sound & software problems. BUT the most glaring issue is VLC... When I open it, there are no problems. But after 10 minutes of use, it randomly increases and decreases the volume by itself, ruining my image quality.... I have started searching for software updates, but it doesn’t offer any.

I have always hated this OS and always will...

Thank you for your help.

Best regards.
Dimitrouille

Configuration: Windows 10, Motherboard: MSI PRO MATE, 4GB video, 16GB RAM, Core i7 3.60GHz, Bitfenix case, Corsair 650W 80+ power supply.

    It's all quite curious.

First, you need to make sure that your original file is encoded correctly.
Are you experiencing this problem with VLC on all videos? (movies, camera videos...)

First of all, thank you for your help.

Yes, indeed it does it to all files!! Even movies! During an action (gunshots, etc...) the sound automatically lowers and goes back to normal afterwards. And for the music, it's the opposite, it increases by itself until the sound distorts.

      Is it a virus?

It looks like a compression/normalization filter that would attach not to VLC but directly through your sound card's drivers.

Can you check the options for your sound card?

I have already looked at the options for my sound card, I even restored the old version...
I remind you that I am configured for Home Cinema sound output in 5.1. Because the sound card automatically detected it. The sound is not coming from the sound card but from my graphics card. Because I don't use the integrated sound card on my motherboard.

In that case, look for what could be a filter among the applications you have installed on your computer.
The description you give of the behavior is very similar to a compression effect on the dynamics.

    Hi,

    Have you reset VLC?

Yes, I did it, Preferences -> Reset settings.
I even uninstalled and reinstalled it but it doesn’t change anything...
Could Windows 10 be involved in this story?

Problem solved!! Actually, you need to click on the sound icon -> 5.1 speaker configuration -> Advanced settings -> Player properties -> Advanced statistics -> Set to DVD quality for home theaters that do not support studio quality.

      Thanks again to everyone.
