Hello,

I am currently using PowerPoint 2016 and I have a problem; I would like to include a video in a presentation, but I am unable to do so.

I went to insert => a video from my PC and there I can select the video in question.
While I am browsing through my slides, I can click on the thumbnail of the video to play it, and navigate through the video with the timeline, no problem.
However, once in slideshow mode, I can't play the video. When I click on it (or on play just underneath), the message "sorry, we can't play the media file" appears.

I have tried several things. My ppt is in .pptx format. My video is in AVI format; I have tried MP4, MPEG, WMV, ... Always the same issue, and each time I can open it with Windows Media Player, play it in ppt outside of slideshow mode, but in slideshow mode, it's not possible.

In the "video tools" of ppt, I have tried with click to play, autoplay, checking "play in full screen," disabling presenter mode, ...
Nothing works; if anyone has a solution, please, I don't think it has to do with the video format but rather something in ppt is blocking the playback in slideshow mode.

Thank you,

Krafter

Thank you, Will, for your response.

I have identified the problem, to answer your question: the link is not broken; in the reading tab, I tried everything by fiddling with the different boxes, and I attempted all possible scenarios. The issue persists with any video, even when restarting the PPT or the computer.

However, during my presentation, my video was working, and I was able to identify the problem.
I have a laptop connected to a docking station with a large external monitor. And in this setup, it is impossible to play the video, regardless of whether the PPT is on the laptop screen or the large screen.
But if I disconnect the laptop from the docking station, the video plays correctly on the laptop. And I can change the PPT options to play it automatically or on click, ...
Fortunately, when I connected my laptop to a projector (for a meeting), the video also worked. So it seems to be an issue with the use of the docking station or the dual screens; for those experiencing the problem, try working with the laptop alone.

There you go, the issue seems resolved.
