Hello,

I purchased a Sony BDP-S1700 DVD player and I need to connect it to a Marantz SR5500 amplifier. The player has HDMI connected to the TV and I have the coaxial out that I need to connect to the amplifier, which has RCA outputs. What type of cable do I need and do I require a converter?

Thank you for your responses.
Fabrice.

    Hello,

Several methods are available to you:
    - There are coaxial cables (digital) that can be split directly into RCA (passive method), like this one:
    https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Digital-Coaxial-Splitter-Adapter/dp/B003L1AGVS
You will then need either a male-to-male RCA cable or a male-to-male coaxial cable, depending on the chosen splitter cable (if it has a female output for coaxial or a female output for RCA)

    - Go through a coaxial to RCA adapter (active method) or coaxial to optical fiber, like this one:
    https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Analog-Converter-Adapter/dp/B003OND0N4
You will then need either a male-to-male RCA cable and a male-to-male coaxial cable or optical.

    - Or capture the audio stream transmitted to the television via the HDMI port that will be redirected to an audio output of the TV (using an available audio output connection on the TV shared with the amplifier, such as optical or RCA). This just requires an optical cable. Check if the TV offers an audio output and if it doesn’t compress the audio stream...

P.S.: The products I've linked are just examples, I cannot comment on the quality of these products, nor on the audio quality they may provide.

Good evening, thank you very much for the response.
I will go for the second solution with the adapter.

      Have a nice evening.
